In the meantime I regret to report that the leading members of Kuo Ling Teng in this Colony have by no means ceased their intrigue. One of them r. Chan Chik-yue openly boasted on the 4th. instant that they would "sweep South Chine. clean".

I see no prospect of perament peace in the Kwangtung Province or of an abiding revival of trade in South China until a strong and efficient Goverment és established st Canton and this Colony ceases to be used as a base for political intrique in the net bouring Republic. This opinion is shared by the respectable Chinese Merchants here, and I am informed that if I were to press for it I could obtain an almost wanilous resolu- -tion of the District Watcmen Committee in favour of the deporte- -tion of leaders of the uo Ming Tang whether resident here or visitors in the Colony. I do not like to apply the pres ́ure because an upen expression of their views might bring trouble upon them here or in China.
